✯RELEASE DAY LAUNCH:✯ Come As You Are by Lauren Blakely {REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!}

Come As You Are by Lauren Blakely

Release Date: April 16th 2018 by CreateSpace Independent Publishing
Genres: Romance, Contemporary

I couldn’t have scripted a more perfect night.

For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I’m not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine—multimillionaire. But who’s counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I've ever met, who happens to like dancing, witty banter, and hot, passionate up-against-the-wall sex as much as I do.

There's no need for names or business cards. And that’s why I’m eager to get to know her more, since my mystery woman seems to like me for me, rather than for my huge…bank account.

Everything’s coming up aces. Until the next day when things get a little complicated. (Newsflash — a lot complicated.)

***

He's charming, brilliant, an incredible lover, and right now I want to stab fate in the eyeballs.

I've had one goal I've been working toward, and lo and behold, my mystery man is the very person who stands between me and my dream job. A job I desperately need since my hard-knock life has nothing in common with his star-kissed one.

But it’s time to put that fairytale night behind me, and focus on learning what makes him tick. Too bad it turns out his quirks are my quirks, and his love affair with New York matches mine.

And as we spend our days together, I discover something else that feels like a cruel twist of fate — I’m falling for this naughty prince charming, and that’s not an ending I can write to our story.

My Review:

This is slowly becoming Lauren Blakely’s year! From the beautiful Parisian love story in Wanderlust to Come As You Are, Blakely manages to deliver yet another great read perfect for those that are love romance and a sense of adventure.

In the story we get to meet Flynn Parker, a high-tech CEO who has founded one of the most successful tech start-ups of all time and sold it for millions. This has earned him the reputation of being a true visionary and is now a key player in the technology industry. Although he is smart and very wealthy, his good looks always attract the wrong attention and he wants someone to like him as he is and not because of his bank account. With his new project, launching very soon Flynn is doing a lot of press and an interview with Up Next, a coveted magazine, is supposed to help push his project to a successful start. But when his company throws a masquerade ball, Flynn is immediately enchanted by the angel he sees before him at the bar. They flirt and dance the night away, but the sexual tension between them is so intense that they end up having sex at the library. Neither of them expected to see each other after that, but in a sudden change of events everything changes the next day when Flynn finds out that the angel he met the previous night is non other than Sabrina Granger, the one who is supposed to interview him for the Up Next feature. It quickly becomes apparent that they can’t longer pursue anything beyond a working relationship, no matter what they feel about each other, but the longer they spend together the more he starts to realize just how much he wants to be with Sabrina. With their careers on the line, they’ll have to decide if pursuing a relationship is worth it or not.

Sabrina Granger hasn’t had the best of luck recently, after losing her job at newspaper and her ex-fiancee, she doesn’t know what she is going to do next. When her friend invites her to a masquerade ball she is skeptical, but willing to have fun at least for one night (and she manages to create the perfect costume for it). Without caring for anything else, she flirts with the handsome stranger who seems to not get enough of her and she lets herself be free for one night. She is so used to been in charge of her family and working that she doesn’t really have much time for herself. When she manages to submit her best work to Up Next, she never expected them to call back wanting to work with her on a feature with non other than Flynn Parker. Although they didn’t exchange names when they met, she recognizes him right away when they meet the following day. Now they work together and she must put her feelings aside in order to get work done. She puts her career first over anything else, and she is not about to let Flynn damage it in any kind of way. But as the two learn about their love for New York, they set out to find the many hidden gems that the city has to offer and in return they start to fall for each other. Sabrina will have to make a choice, one that could end their relationship in the end.

I absolutely loved reading Came As You Are, it was witty and romantic! In Wanderlust, Lauren focused on all things France and in this book we get to explore New York. There were a lot of things that I liked about the characters, Flynn is caring and wicked smart. There was a scene in the book where he explained the Fibonacci sequence to Sabrina using a pineapple and it was cute. He has a tender spot for his baby niece, Zoey, and the interactions with his siblings were fun to read. He has been used in the past and doesn’t trust easily. Flynn knows that he might be wealthy, but it has taken a lot of work to get to where he is and he is not about to let anyone hurt him again. Meeting Sabrina at the ball has definitely made things interesting for him. He slowly lets his walls down when he is with her exploring the city and a romance starts to blossom. On the other hand, Sabrina is such a hard worker and witty. She is creative when it comes to her writing and her love for fashion. She loves to create her own outfits and is not scare to show who she is. In the story we get to learn more about why she wants her career to work out over anything else and it truly makes her that much more relatable. There is never an issue with Blakely’s writing style, she always manages to create a descriptive story to the very end and that’s what I loved about it the most. We do get both of the character’s POVs in the story which made it that much more enjoyable to read. The ending will leave you swooning and rooting for the characters. I will highly recommend reading this book and any others by the author, you will not be disappointed it! :)

My Rating:

{EXCERPT}

~FLYNN~

The door crawls shut.

Inch by inch.

A slow-mo door.

I have no patience for its theatrics. I kick it shut, eager for the next part of the evening to begin.

Her laughter sounds across the library and echoes off its dark wood shelves bursting with books. A leather couch takes center stage, flanked by a mahogany table.

“Are you in a rush to read something?” she asks coyly.

Her voice turns me on. It’s like bourbon and honey. A little throaty and husky, but with sweet undertones. Funny, how when you can’t see someone’s face—at least not all of it—your other senses heighten. Your ears work harder, homing in on the voice, or you zoom in on the eyes. Hers are warm hazel with flecks of bronze and green.

“Why, yes, I was looking for a particular book.” I stroll to the bookshelf along one wall, running my fingers across the spines, from old hardcovers like Tess of the d’Urbervilles to modern thrillers from the likes of Clive Cussler to non-fiction reads on the habits of highly effective people. “I thought if you wanted to go to the library you’d want to read. Naturally.”

“Of course. Read me a story. A bedtime story.” She leans against the wall next to a writing desk with a green lamp on it, the kind that has one of those chains you pull down to turn it on. She goes with the moment, and this night seems like role-play with her. I half want to understand who she is. But in a way, I’d rather experience everything she seems to want to give. Her body. Her mouth. Her mind. Whoever she is here in the library is as real as whoever she is behind the mask. My mission is to make sure she gets everything she wants.

I grab the nearest book and crack it open. It’s a James Patterson. “Once upon a time, there was a woman at a party who wanted to be kissed,” I say, walking to her, the pages open.

The angel raises her hands to her hair and sweeps off the headband that holds her halo. She tosses it to the desk. “That sounds like a very scintillating tale.”
